16th, 18th, 21st or 25th birthday
Sixteen, eighteen, twenty-one and twenty-five each carry their own expectations, depending on who you are and where you live. A song can follow exactly that transition, without pretending everyone takes the same steps at the same age.
Between the old room and new plans
A driving lesson is in the diary, friends plan a dinner or rent is paid independently for the first time. Which details fit differs per age and per life. The lyrics can look back at the child of then while taking seriously what occupies the birthday person now: study, work, freedom, friendships or plans still wide open.
Which of these ages is being celebrated and what actually changes? Tell us about friends, activities and plans, name a recognisable childhood memory and indicate which childhood stories are now better left out.
